The Anxious Student: Supporting the Anxious Student in the Classroom

Mental health concerns account for student disconnect and withdrawal from college. Students who have mental health concerns struggle with academic development, classroom participation, connecting with their professors, and acclimating to college life altogether. As educators, we are not always equipped or prepared to recognize the signs of students who are stressed or who are in distress and functioning poorly. The objectives of this sessionare to: • Recognize and understand the stressors and mental health concerns that college students experience • Understand college student development and their ability to cope • Identify signs of stress displayed in the classroom setting • Learn strategies to actively support students

This session will be simulcast (via Webex). A moderated chat room, will be provided, however, direct contact with the presenter(s) will not be supported through this session. Connection instructions for this event will be emailed to all participants the day prior to the event.
