Facilitated By: Pei-Ju (PJ) Liu, Center for Instructional Design

- Prerequisite:

o (1) Self-Paced Blackboard Fundamentals Training (click to auto-enroll and/or test out)

o (2) At least one semester of online teaching experience.

- Format: This is an online & asynchronous program with optional virtual live sessions.

- Length: 3-week.

- This program is about Preparing for Class & Bridging the Distance in an online class. You will invest approximately 2-3 hours every week. First, you will learn guidelines to structure an online course for better usability and learner experience. You will self-assess your course site and make improvements. Next, you will learn tips for building common ground with students using a well-written syllabus. You will explain your course to students using visual aids, audio, or video. Last, you will explore various strategies and tools to show instructor presence in an online class. You will write a communication plan to stay connected with students. You will also identify two strategies that you will incorporate in your class to establish instructor presence.
